Brief Description

An excellent opportunity working for an established manufacturing company based in East Staffordshire, with over 100 year’s expertise of on-board and trackside railway components and solutions. You will gain exposure to a wide range of manufacturing operations, working in a high-tech environment, alongside a dedicated team.

Qualifications Required

GCSE Maths and English at Grade 4/C or above (Apprentices lacking these qualifications must gain them before taking the end point assessment.)

Personal Qualities

Positive attitude.
Interest in mechanical or electronics engineering.
Enthusiastic.
Keen to learn new skills.

Skills Required

• The ability to listen and follow instructions
• The ability to apply a logical approach to problem solving
• Good communication skills
• Ability to handle small components
• Basic electrical or mechanical knowledge and interest would be preferred
• Good IT skills would be preferred

Training to be Provided

Level 2 Lean Manufacturing Operative apprenticeship standard
Level 1/2 Functional Skills in maths and English (if required)

This apprenticeship is delivered through a combination of Work Based Assessment and day/block release.  The programme will culminate in an End Point Assessment, where all the skills and knowledge gained on the apprenticeship will be formally tested.

Future Prospects

There is an opportunity of a full-time post upon completing the apprenticeship, and further opportunities to progress within the company and wider group. Alternatively, further apprenticeships are available.

The role will offer experience, training and coaching within our lean manufacturing operation including:
• Safety awareness
• Stock process and management
• Assembly Techniques
o Machine operation
o Soldering
o Hand assembly
o Using build sheets and work instructions
o Working in a Clean Room environment
• Test & Inspection
o Use of automated test equipment
o Inspection and quality control
o Taking and recording accurate measurements using various technical equipment

• Getting involved with our Continuous Improvement program to identify, develop and implement ideas and investments.

The aim is to provide the relevant experiential learning opportunities in a world class manufacturing facility in addition to funding the college technical learning to develop the individual to pass their qualification and progress into a full-time position within our business.
