Brief Description

Pizzeria Bufala seeks a passionate Pizzaiolo Apprentice to craft authentic Neapolitan pizzas using traditional, AVPN certified methods. Join our team, perfect the art of true Neapolitan pizza-making and become an internationally certified Pizzaiolo.

Qualifications Required

GCSE Maths and English at Grade 4/C or above (Apprentices lacking these qualifications must gain them before taking the end point assessment.)

Personal Qualities

What we require:
• Passion for Pizza: A genuine love for pizza and a desire to learn the art of Neapolitan pizza-making.
• Work Ethic: Reliable, punctual, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
• Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods and perform tasks that require physical effort, such as kneading dough and operating a wood-fired oven.

Skills Required

• Culinary Experience: Previous experience in a kitchen environment is preferred but not required. A willingness to learn and adapt is essential.
• Attention to Detail: Ability to follow recipes and procedures accurately, performing mathematical calculations and ensuring consistency and quality in every pizza.
• Customer Service Skills: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact positively with customers and team members.

Training to be Provided

Level 2 Production Chef apprenticeship standard
Level 1/2 Functional Skills in maths and English (if required)

This apprenticeship is delivered through a combination of Work Based Assessment and day/block release.  The programme will culminate in an End Point Assessment, where all the skills and knowledge gained on the apprenticeship will be formally tested.

Future Prospects

Full-time employment may be available upon completion of the apprenticeship.

We operate from both our mobile 1960’s vintage pizza van and also our commercial kitchen in Bretby, Burton-on-Trent where in addition to food preparation, we also manufacture Neapolitan pizzas for wholesale distribution.

Key Responsibilities:


• Pizza Preparation: Learn and execute the traditional methods of preparing and cooking authentic Neapolitan pizzas, including dough preparation, stretching, topping, and baking in a traditional oven.
• Ingredient Management: Ensure the use of fresh, high-quality ingredients in all pizzas. Assist in inventory management and ordering supplies as needed.
• Food Safety and Hygiene: Adhere to all food safety and health regulations. Maintain cleanliness and organisation in the kitchen and preparation areas.
• Customer Interaction: Handle customer payments efficiently and courteously. Provide excellent customer service, addressing any inquiries or concerns promptly.
• Team Collaboration: Work closely with kitchen staff and front-of-house team to ensure smooth operations and a cohesive work environment.
• Training and Development: Participate in ongoing training sessions to enhance your skills and knowledge of Neapolitan pizza-making.

Other Information

• This role often requires working outdoors when catering large events.
• This role has flexible working patterns due to nature of catering events, we endeavour to schedule shifts minimum 4 weeks in advance and provide as much regularity as is practical.
