Brief Description

Joining us as a GP receptionist/administrator could be the start of a long and successful NHS career.

You will gain a wealth of experience and be supported through relevant qualifications.

Our practice, located in central Swadlincote, has 10,000 patients and we have a supportive and friendly team.

Qualifications Required

English and maths grade C/4 or equivalent

Someone who is confident and resilient, able to flex style to communicate with all kinds of patients. Flexible, reliable, professional and discreet. Friendly and welcoming. Empathetic, patient and understanding. A team player, but also able to use own initiative when working alone.

Skills Required

The role is ideally suited to someone who is a good communicator, both verbal and written, and able to liaise with the public with confidence.
The ability to remain calm, courteous and professional when working under pressure.
Discretion and respectful when working with sensitive patient data.
Good IT skills required, to be used when working with databases and also MS and Teams packages.

Training to be Provided

Level 3 Business Administrator apprenticeship standard (can include Level 2 elements if required)
Level 2 Functional Skills in maths and English (if required)

This apprenticeship is delivered through a combination of Work Based Assessment and day/block release.  The programme will culminate in an End Point Assessment, where all the skills and knowledge gained on the apprenticeship will be formally tested.

Future Prospects

Whilst a permanent job can't be guaranteed, previous apprentices have gone on to secure permanent roles with our practice, ranging from administrators to medical secretary and also healthcare roles.

Vacancy Detail

Our receptionists are one of our most critical roles within the practice. Patient facing, either in person or over the phone, you represent the practice and are the person that our patients look to for assistance.

The ideal candidate will be hard working, reliable, enthusiastic, confident and resilient and able to communicate with empathy when dealing with patients. Professionalism and discretion is required at all times.

You will be required to work on front or back reception positions. You will greet visitors, handle patient enquiries in person, over the phone and through email communication. Back office administration is also required, ranging from registrations, scanning, coding of letters, website enquiries, documentation reviews and supporting health campaigns etc.

Full training will be provided. This includes an induction into the role, how to use the IT and phone equipment and the process and procedures we follow.

Working Week:

Our opening hours are 7.30am – 6.30pm. Full time staff are rota'd to work 37.5 hours per week during these hours. Part time or apprentice staff by negotiation, to meet business demands. Consideration can be given to public transport timetables.

Weekly Wage:

In line with apprenticeship pay rate, £180.38 per week/ £9379.50 per annum.
